Beat of The Day: Loituma — The Cute Yet Funk Song

13 03 2009

loituma_1_1Today’s beat of the day is the Loituma song which is one of the popular songs in YouTube and comes in different version. Loituma song was originally brought by a Finnish band consists of 4 people. If I recall, this song also won an award in best Ensemble song (I forgot which award, just google it to find out).

Anyway, this Inoue Orihime, a character from Bleach, seems to be quite popular in being the mascot of singing the Loituma song (Even Hatsune Miku from Vocaloid adopts the celery thing on Inoue hands). You can see people holding celery and do crazy dance while singing Loituma on YouTube.

Anyway, you can find millions of Loituma song variation. Either it is Russian version, Polish version, or just melodic humming version. It’s a quite catchy song and you can still enjoy it either in techno or orginal. Here’s some of the variations that I found to be a cute and funky tune:

Chitty Chatter Version

Russian Version

Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu Version

Lucky Star Version

Desktop Goodies: Horo Rainmeter

13 03 2009

Hello Rainmeter fans, since Saturday is up ahead, I decided to do something quite wasteful. Yes, it is modifying my Rainmeter skin (what miserable life I have^^). So, for today, I pick Horo from the Spice and Wolf series that has been a quite popular and great series. Also, Horo is quite charming in her own way (plus the fox tail and ear is so adorable. OMG, I’m becoming a sissy). Anyway, I vote Horo as the new mascot for firefox. Scrap that old fox and change it to her *chanting Horo’s name repeatedly*.

Note: The Rainmeter application can be downloaded in my previous post (Just search it, okay?). Also, don’t forget to extract the folder and move it to the Rainmeter skin directory. Happy downloading!

Feb 2009: Computer Network Oral Final Study Examination — The Conclusion

13 03 2009

In the Computer Network OFSE 2009, there are only 5 chapters that are included in the examination. This has its advantage since you don’t have to study much and can rely only on the quizzes on the previous semester. Even Uul (one of my classmates) said that she overstudied for the examination. I myself, didn’t chosed this object since Computer Network is not my virtue. Also, I had a bad experience during the Computer Network  class since Mr. Charles Lim, the Computer Network lecturer, was hard on us in giving score in the quizzes.

There are a total of 7 people who join this particular examination subject and all of them got above 80 in their mark. One of them said that it is enough for you to only study from the tutorial that Mr. Charles has given. Even he said that you still overstudy if you do so.

One thing you must be beware though is that the additional questions that Mr. Charles launched during the examination. They are usually hard and out of the context of the tutorial content. However, it seems that Mr. Charles wouldn’t deduct your score if you fail to answer his questions.

So, if you are confident enough to join Computer Network just pick it as your OFSE selection. For your information, these 7 people are not the master of this subject and they said that their overnight study was a complete waste (in a good way) since you don’t have to study that hard to conquer this particular subject. They also said that this particular examination is not as hard as you might think it is. Now, it’s your call people, make a wise decision and good luck in deciding your OFSE subject.

A Day in SGU: A Short Story of IT Students – by The Mind Blowers

13 03 2009

3-13-2009-6-48-15-amAnother project worth talking about is the project from the Mind Blowers team. This is a project for the semester 7th Multimedia class. The team consists of:

Laura Lidwina Lukmanto

Byatriasa Pakarti Linuwih

Nani Yasmin

Here’s what they said about the project:

“For our 7th semester multimedia project, we wanted something simple and something that we love to do. We wanted the result to be something that is familiar to all IT 7th semester students. So, we came up with this idea: a video that features the everyday activity, behavior, all the normality (and abnormality for sure) of SGU IT students.

The first one to be made is the 3D model of SGU for the background. Because we love all simple things, we used Google SketchUp. It is a really easy tool to build 3D model for any building. The hard part was to memorize the floor plan of SGU, which is located in 6th floor of German Center building and unfortunately there is a prohibition for taking pictures inside the building.

After that, we made the scenario. Given it is a short video (about 5 minutes, we thought that longer video would be boring), we try to include most of the typical behaviors of the students during the classes and pauses. It includes quite a wide variety from coming late for lecture, students not understand the lecture, gossiping at toilets, our “smart” conversation at the canteen, and so on.

Then came the casting. We didn’t have much time to build 3D students, so we just take the pictures of the students (front and back side) and basically animated them with Macromedia Flash. The last part is editing and adding background music. Thanks to Adobe Premiere, it was not really a complicated process, because we had already in mind how the outcome would be. So, here it is, a simple video from us for our friends and all students out there“.
