Soul Eater AMV-Resonance

31 03 2011

I found this awesome AMV of one of my favorite animes-Soul Eater-with its opening theme song ‘Resonance’ by T.M. Revolution. If you want to watch the show after seeing this, I don’t blame you! Don’t worry about spoilers. If there are any, you wouldn’t get it anyways!

If you really need a brief summary of what Soul Eater is about, it’s simply set in a school called the DWMA where the students hunt down evil souls, known as Kishen. The students are set in two groups: Meisters and Weapons. Weapons are students born with the ability to turn into weapons and Meisters are those who control the weapon. Each Meister and Weapon Pair have a goal to hunt down 99 Kishen souls and 1 witch soul, so that they can make the weapon a ‘Death Scythe’, the instrument of the Lord Death himself. Enjoy!

Machine Civilization by World Order

31 03 2011

This song really gives me hope for a better tomorrow. If you pay attention to the lyrics here, this song is dedicated to people in Japan to rise up and shine to overcome the disaster that has been looming recently. I give you the message from Genki Sudo, the composer of the music, below the video so that you can understand what the song is about.

Lyric credit to Laura & Picano:

Romaji Lyrics

The morning of machine civilization

English Translation

The morning of machine civilization
Red pretext, shadow doubt
clad in mourning clothing of blue.
Ryhtm captured in the morning,

Always the same instant.
Don’t stop the production line.
Something broken,
In the twilight of machinery.
Where’s the world going?
Won’t somebody tell me?
Are these thoughts illusions?
Are we all one?
This world will be changed…?
This heart an illusion?

(musical interlude)

People find the way to be done

People labor birds singing.
Fell asleep dreaming.
Waking clears the song
Always the same gap
This moment comes to exist
Sometimes revolution is demand
In the twilight of machinery

Where’s the world going?
Won’t somebody tell me?
Are these thoughts illusions?

are we all one?
This heart will change…?
Always smiling at the dream.

Beat of The Day: Lux Aeterna by Clint Mansell

31 03 2011

Yeah, I’ve just watched Requiem For A Dream with my roomate so I guess I can’t get this tune out of my head. The tune really stands a perfect fit with the movie theme which is also an awesome movie by the way. I will probably do a review on that shortly after I take a nap.

Anime Review: Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni

29 03 2011

WARNING!!!! THIS ANIME IS NOT FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HATE VIOLENCE AND BLOOD!!! IF YOU FAINT AT THE SIGHT OF BLOOD, I SUGGEST YOU DON’T EVEN READ THIS!!!

So, anyone still want to read this review? Yes? No? Well in any case, I’m still going to write it despite whatever you guys say, so hah! So, those of you who are actually brave enough to think you can stomach this…let’s go! Before I get into anything, I just need to say one more thing. Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni (also known as Higurashi When they Cry) appears to be a shoujo girls anime filled with harem, but let me tell you that the minute you start watching this, you’ll think VERY differently. The first ten seconds of the first episode shows our main character Keiichi beating two people to death. (No, that’s actually not technically a spoiler since you immediately notice it)

Plotline:

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni takes place during June 1983, at a fictional rural village called Hinamizawa (雛見沢?) which has a population of approximately 2,000. The main character, Keiichi Maebara, moves to Hinamizawa and befriends his new classmates Rena Ryugu, Mion Sonozaki, Rika Furude, and Satoko Houjou. Keiichi joins their after-school club activities, which consist mostly of card and board games (and punishment games for the loser, usually him.) Hinamizawa appears to be a normal, peaceful, rural village to Keiichi. However, the tranquility abruptly ends after the annual Watanagashi Festival, a celebration to commemorate and give thanks to the local god, Oyashiro. Keiichi learns that every year for the past four years, one person has been murdered and another has gone missing on the day of the Watanagashi Festival. Keiichi himself soon becomes drawn into the strange events surrounding the Watanagashi Festival and Oyashiro. In each story arc, he or one of his friends become paranoid, and a crime is committed. Usually, the crime involves the murder of one of their own friends. While it seems impossible to tell their delusions apart from the mystery of Hinamizawa, slowly the truth is revealed.

Arcs:

The way the Arcs are laid out in Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni are really rather strange. The beginning of every arc starts about two weeks before the end of the last arc. So in the the first arc, it ends with a bit of a surprise. Then, for the start of the second arc, they go back about two weeks to retell the story in a new light. Usually, either new characters are introduced, different events happen, or new discoveries are made in every arc. No two arcs are the same even if they appear to be a repeat.

Arc 1-Spirited Away by the Demon: This gives a good introduction to Keiichi, and all the other characters in the rural village of Hinamizawa. The first episode really isn’t all that interesting, other then Keiichi finding out that a horrible murder happened in the village. However, then it does get pretty intense when he starts meeting with a detective named Oishi and Rena and Mion find out. Still, a lot of questions are presented in this arc, so I can’t say that I really liked it that much. Still, I suppose it was a pretty good introductory to the anime. I didn’t like the way it ended though…too sudden if you ask me.

Arc 2-Cotton Drifting Chapter: Keiichi learns that Mion has a twin sister named Shion who lives in the neighboring village of Okinomiya. I got really surprised when I learned this. Of course, I also got confused wondering why the two sisters lived apart. Keiichi begins to believe that Mion and Shion have something between them, and it’s not really a good something either. This time, two people are killed at the Watanagashi festival, and Keiichi and Shion believe that they’re next. Keiichi and Rena also discover that Mion has a demon in her body-or so she claims. The ending to this arc really wasn’t that bad…and you never do figure out in the end what happened to everyone. I can’t say this arc has a lot of blood, but the details are really gruesome.

Arc 3-Curse Killing Chapter: Keiichi learns about Satoko’s older brother Satoshi, who reportedly ‘transferred’ a few years ago. However, when he brings this up around his friends, they all have very different reactions. Keiichi begins to believe that there’s more to Satoshi’s mysterious disappearance then what’s been told to him. Satoko also gets repeatedly abused by her uncle. In a drastic turn, Keiichi decides to take matters into his own hands to stop the abuse. This arc seriously has a lot more emotion and twists than the other arcs. For example, you would never expect Keiichi-who was so innocent in the previous arcs-to turn into your ‘bad guy’. This arc also offers a few more glimpses into Rena’s mysterious past. All in all, I enjoyed this arc, but there’s still a lot to be uncovered.

Arc 4-Eye Opening Chapter: The events of the Cotton Drifting Arc are retold from the point of view of Shion Sonozaki. It’s revealed that throughout the whole arc, Mion was never involved and that it was Shion that Keiichi was with until the very end. You find out that the younger of twins is always murdered in the Sonozaki family, but Shion managed to slip away. After that, there’s this whole cheesy love sequence between Shion-acting as Mion-and Satoshi. Blah blah blah, the deaths in the Cotton Drifting Arc are then explained in further detail. This is like, one of the most graphic arcs ever! It’s probably my favorite if it wasn’t for the love suggestions. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against it. It’s just really awkward to see it in an anime like this. Anyways, there’s a LOT of blood in this arc, so just get a bucket if you need it.

Arc 5-Atonement: The final arc of the first season of Higurashi. Rena goes truly insane this arc after finding out that the god of Hinamizawa, Oyashiro, whom she’s feared for so long, doesn’t actually exist. Whoops, spoiler. Anyways, Rena goes mad and starts doing all this crazy stuff which I won’t talk about. Keiichi and the others try to calm her, but of course, what can you do with a mad girl? Anyways, this is an extremely confusing arc, and at the end of it, you have absolutely NO clue what just happened. That’s why they have a second season!!!

Characters:

Keiichi Maebara: The only boy who’s part of the school club, Keiichi is a transfer student who moved to Hinamizawa after a few…incidents which are revealed in the final arc by Rena. He is portrayed as the villain only once in the entire series in contrast to some of the other girls. He is always being constantly fooled by Mion and Shion and has a very charismatic personality and is extremely intelligent, but can’t solve problems that he can’t relate to. However, some of you would say that this guy has little to no backbone. I won’t argue with you about that though.
Rena Ryuugu: Most of you would probably find her very annoying. She’s an extremely happy and bubbly girl, but also very mentally unstable. She believes very strongly in the curse of Oyashiro, and condemns anyone who doesn’t believe in the curse. She is the villain in the first and final arc and loves caring around a machete while killing. However, she has a fetish for cute things, and takes care of Keiichi. I really find this girl kind of strange, but I don’t mind putting up with her. Still, she can’t tell lies for her life.
Mion Sonozaki: The elder of the two Sonozaki twins and the eldest member of the school, thus their president. She’s next in line to head the three great families. I can really relate to Mion because she’s such a tomboy, but she does have girlish instincts. There’s a lot about Mion that’s never revealed at the beginning, and she doesn’t seem to be very happy with her younger sister Shion. Siblings can be so quarrelsome sometimes. That’s why I will never have one.
Shion Sonozaki: The younger of the Sonozaki twins who resents her family because she believes that they were the ones who took Satoshi away from her. She currently resides in the neighboring town of Okinomiya and doesn’t attend the same school as the other main characters. She is a lot more innocent then Mion, and a lot more self conscious. However, I freaking love this girl because she’s extremely delusional. I’m listening to her laugh every single day…it’s creepy.
Satoko Houjo: Keiichi’s younger classmate who has to live with her abusive uncle. She is known to have impressive arm strength as she can knock out Keiichi (WHOO HOO!!!!) and has a very boastful personality in general. Satoko is suggested to be colorblind. I admire her for her resolve and strength, cause I could never put up with an abusive uncle and she’s only like what, nine? Her past is really full of trauma, and I feel sorry for her a lot. Still, you easily forget that with her daily behavior.
Rika Furude: The daughter of the Hinamizawa Priests who were supposedly killed by Oyashiro’s curse. The Furude Family is one of the 3 great families that run everything in Hinamizawa. Rika is an extremely cute girl who lives in the same house as Satoko. Rika believes that she is actually over a hundred years old because of the never ending summer of 1983 (creepy, right) but still acts like a little kid, saying things like “Mii” and “Nipah!” Still, she’s an utterly adorable little kid and if I had a sister like that, I’d cuddle her SO much.

Never Knows Best-A FLCL AMV

29 03 2011

Hello!

Sorry I haven’t posted in so long, I didn’t really have a stable internet connection at home over break, but I’m back at my University at the moment. Welcome to our new authors! Hopefully we’ll get to know eachother better soon. In other news, I still send my support to Japan, as the reactors have not fully cooled yet. I hope this will be over soon.

On a lighter note, I found this AMV the other day. I enjoy FLCL and absolutely adore the band the song is from.

Until next time!

Wallpaper of The Week: Tomoe Mami

29 03 2011

This week’s wallpaper also features the new header image on the web banner. She looks so badass with all those muskets lining besides her. I haven’t watch this anime yet since I’m still coping with Level E and now Black Lagoon – Roberta’s Blood Trail episode 4 has came up. So, I guess I’ll be saving this anime to be watched later.

On Spotlight: Puppetsnippet Mixtape by Lolski & Roflsmir

29 03 2011

On today’s spotlight for this blog will be featuring 2 DJs who are also my friends. Lolski is a DJ who currently lives in Amsterdam and Roflsmir is actually my roomate who currently lives in Saarbruecken, Germany. You can check out their works on Lolski personal page on soundcloud.

The music they are focus on are Indie synth pop and they proclaim their music to be “Groovy and allows people to still be able to chat with each other while enjoying the music at the same time”. And I absolutely agree that the music they mix is very much enjoyable to the extent that it still respect the ability of people to move around the dancing stage while still be able to have a good talk. Now, that’s what I call a classy party music.

I have request them to make an anime related mixtape since the music-orientation they are focus on fits perfectly to my taste. They agree on doing it and currently the playlist is being arranged. Anyway, if you enjoy the music bits on this “Puppetsnippet Mixtape” please do give a comment. Your input will be a great chance for them to revamped things up and your support will be a great appreciation.

Panic Attack by Florrie (Fred Falke Extended Remix)

29 03 2011

I always have a great affinity with those overused bass play and this is the exact music to set an example with. My rommate was playing this music with his turntable a couple days ago and I asked him to play this song again. It took awhile to get to this music since the only thing I remember about this music that it has a lot of “Wah” in it. At last he found it and we can go to sleep peacefully. Enjoy!

Random Video of the Day: Wu Hui by Fahrenheit

28 03 2011

Today, I would like to introduce to you this Taiwanese All Boy Band known as Fahrenheit (or Fei Lun Hai as it’s known as by Taiwanese people). You probably won’t understand any of this unless you’re Chinese or Taiwanese yourself. Anyways, the 4 singers (whom I think are all hot) are Jiro, Wu Chen, Aaron, and Calvin.

This is a release from their 4th album ‘Super Hot’. The song’s called Wu Hui, or Misunderstanding. It’s a really nice song. I don’t know what’s gotten into me lately, but I like listening to these types of songs now instead of rock…maybe it’s to calm my nerves.

Memories of Matsuko Review

28 03 2011

Ah, this film is another masterpiece by Tetsuya Nakashima and this time it’s not a thriller movie. This film is from 2006 and if you guys have watched and actually liked it then good for you. If you haven’t, then how about sit down with me as I tell you about this brilliant movie.

To put it off short, this movie is about a slice of life. At first, you may think that this film is a comedy and overexposed 80′s comedy bits with all the musical thing, but it’s to get you on the atmosphere as the plot story is from that era. Don’t give a quick judgement to this film, although it may be simple, this film holds a very complicated ulterior background. I personally favored this film compared to “Grave of the Fireflies” and my friends called me a person with no soul for that. Sorry guys, it’s just that a Nuclear tragedy film is just hard to be related to my life.

Anyway, let’s get back to the topic. Memories of Matsuko offers you a story about Matsuko Kawajiri (Duh…), who was found dead nearby the river. Sho Kawajiri, her nephew, was asked by his father to clear her apartment up. As he was cleaning her apartment, Sho Kawajiri encounters people who was once passed by Matsuko. Then, the story starts off.

Matsuko’s life has been a sad one. She was once a teacher who got fired because defending a student who stole somebody’s money. When she asked the student to save her, she got completely betrayed. Ah, I just slipped a spoiler there. Let me elegantly stop here and say that for all her life, she has been giving her heart to somebody and was completely betrayed to be left out saying “Why?”.

I personally think Matsuko is a very positive person. Eventhough all the predicaments engulfing her life, she always find a reason to live. And that’s what she calls “love”. She will love anybody unconditionally and willingly go to hell with the one she loves. Why? Because of one simple reason, “I don’t want to be alone”. That simple reason truly is the same reason why I keep on living.

She completely understands me and I personally think, no matter how strong you are and how cool being a tough guy really is, deep down inside all humans don’t want to be left alone. “Life’s value is not counted based on what we received, it’s counted on what we gave” probably one of the best quote this film has to offer. Matsuko Kawajiri has given a lot of meaning in somebody’s else life and although people would say her life is meaningless, it is not so by the people who are affected by her.

In conclusion, this film moves me so much as I would burst into tears just watching how she dealt with her miserable life and always find a reason to live on. Although, there are few occasions that she decided to end her life which ended up her body automatically rejected the idea of doing so. I quote her say “I was sure my life was at the end that moment, but somehow my body won’t let me”. Truly an inspirational movie!

Wallpaper of The Week: Kagamine Len & Hatsune Miku

27 03 2011

This week’s wallpaper features another vocaloid characters and I think Len and Miku look kind of an interesting couple. Uuuh, I think I’m hearing a lot of rejection from Rin x Len fans. Tee-hee.

Beat of the Day: Linkin Park – Numb

27 03 2011

Well, it’s another boring back to school week for me. Nothing special happened, except for spamming of multiple projects, assignments, tests, blahblahblah. I don’t want to keep this post for too long because I still have some homework/projects left to finish (and I got to go for lunch soon).

Today’s beat of the day is Linkin Park – Numb. It’s a pretty popular rock’n'roll song, so I guess I don’t have to go real descriptive about this. This song is from the album Meteora and it was one of the most hit songs back then, probably even today.

At first, I thought that I really didn’t know much about this rock band but when I found out recently that many of the songs that they made are actually songs that I do know, I decided to do some more research about this band. Linkin Park is also one of the bands that my brother had first told me about, which is often a rare case because he has no musical tastes whatsoever. Well, anyway, enjoy.
