Digital Music Shelf – Yume Nikki – 24 EFFECTS -

9 09 2011

Holy crap, it’s been a long time. been raining for the last 3 days and had college close up for 2 days because of local flooding but the weekend is finally here and I’ve got the dorm room to myself all weekend. I was looking for something to do and remembered I made a great musical discovery yesterday and I felt I should share it out on here. If any of you are familiar with the indie game Yume Nikki you’ll know where this is going. That game has some amazing music in it and I stumbled across an album remixing a little over a dozen tracks from the game in spectacular fashion. Yume Nikki is a game where you play as a girl who goes inside of her dreams. The game is very large, has basically no plot, no direction, and promotes exploring its vast areas and finding its secrets. The basic goal of the game is to collect all 24 “effects” and reach the end of the game, but most of the game is about exploring it. But on to the music. The album isn’t by just one artist. A large number of people took part in remixing the tracks and the results are nothing short of spectacular. Have a sample of my favorite track titled Madotsuki in Wonderland. Madotsuki being the name of the girl you play in the game.

And now you can have a download link. It took forever to find this bloody link for some bizarre reason so I hope you all enjoy.

I don’t know when my next post will be and this is a real shorty of one. Now I’m off to the campus store to get some more food. Until next time everybody!

Black Rock Shooter Wallpaper Pack V2

2 06 2011

So, I’ve noticed that for the longest time my most popular post, and one of the sites most popular as well, has been my Black Rock Shooter wallpaper pack, which only had about a dozen or so images. Since that post so long ago I’ve gathered many more wallpapers. I thought I would take the time to add all my new wallpapers, including the old ones, into a single convenient post. As a bonus I’ll also be adding in the entire Black Rock Shooter Visual Works, which features many Huke originals and images that appeared in the BRS music video and OVA trailer. Happy viewing, everyone.

Note: This is very large, 71 images in total so it may take some time to browse them all and I don’t have the means of putting them into a zip file and uploading it somewhere. If anyone feels like doing that for me, more power to you.

Second Note: Arashige Aiko added another 29 images, which are not shown here but are included in the zip file shown in the comments.

Farce90′s Wallpaper Pack

13 04 2011

I’ve managed to find some free time to make a post. My final class of the day was canceled and I’ve run out of things to do so I figured why not. Instead of making a crap ton of posts for each individual wallpaper I figured I would make a bundle out of them. Most of the included wallpapers are Touhou and then Vocaloid with a few other odds and ends tossed in. There would probably be more wallpapers but I’m pretty picky. I’ll try and continue my series some other time. I’ve been missing sleep lately and I haven’t been feeling too well either. I’ll see if I can’t get one up some time this weekend. Take care until then, everyone.

I would also like to extend a formal welcome to our newest Co-Authors. You know who you are! I hope you enjoy your stay.

Farce90′s Post Series: Part 29 – Hakurei Reimu

9 03 2011

Before I start anything I have a quick word for you all. I haven’t quit the blog, I haven’t died, and I haven’t dropped off the face of the Earth. Though I haven’t participated much I still check the blog frequently. I’m on Spring break until this coming Sunday so I’ll try and add in a few posts before then.

One other quick thing: ZUN has announced Touhou 13 and a demo will be released at the coming Reiteisai. Other than that I don’t know much more, other than Sanae and Youmu will be returning as playable characters alongside Reimu and Marisa. I’ll be adding that in at a later date as Post #28.1, leaving room for possible future games to be jotted in. Now, on to the main attraction.

So this is Hakurei Reimu. If you don’t know who Reimu is at this point you either need to rethink why you’re visiting this blog or completely revisit everything Touhou. On the left, I have a higher quality image of Reimu and a generally more pleasing one at that. On the right I have ZUN’s original artwork ripped from Touhou 12: Undefined Fantastic Object.

Reimu’s age is speculated somewhere between 16 and possibly  up to 19, generally late teens. She is the shrine maiden of the Hakurei shrine located at the border between the human realm and Gensokyo. Unlike most characters she has a couple of prominent abilities, those being the ability to seal away spirits, the ability to call upon the power of gods, and the ability to be able to fly somehow. Her disposition, from my own observations, seems to be cold and calculated. She knows her goal and is willing to do whatever it takes to set things right and will see them through until the end. She’s usually quite lazy as well but will not hesitate to act if needed to, or if someone messes with her stuff.

Reimu’s theme is called Maiden’s Capriccio ~ Dream Battle. Its her boss theme from Touhou 8: Imperishable Night and is her most well known one. She has a number of other themes as well, mostly from the other fighting games but she also has her PC-98 themes as well.

In fannon, she is much different. She is usually portrayed as a tsundere (if you don’t know what it is, look it up people). She is also usually said to be poor to the point that she will eat grass or leaves, as I had actually read in some fan comic somewhere. She is usually depicted as kind with a cold edge, or sometimes just outright rude, mostly for comic relief or some such.

There are a number of jokes surrounding Reimu as well. One of the most popular ones is that she has really attractive armpits. I do have to admit that I saw one particular image in which her armpits looked incredible. Another rather popular joke is calling Reimu a zombie due to the tone of her skin in Touhou 10: Mountain of Faith in which her skin appeared somewhat yellow and jaundiced. Her being poor is another popular joke, mostly being with her donation box being empty day in and day and willing to do practically anything to make a quick buck, including breaking some fingers if necessary.

I may come back and edit this at a later date to tack things on. Comments are appreciated. As for now it’s 1 in the morning so I think I need to catch some sleep. Goodnight all.

Wallpaper of the Week: Kimono Girl

22 12 2010

I know it’s been really busy around here but I just can’t help throwing up one of the best wallpapers I have seen in a long time. It took a few hours of scrounging around and being very picky but I found THIS. It’s surprisingly hard to find a wallpaper like this. I was looking for a wallpaper that was mostly traditional Japanese styled and this suits that almost perfectly. I wasn’t looking for anything too cutesy or too serious and this fit that perfectly as well. I really hope you enjoy this half as much as I do.

Anime Review: Strike Witches

22 12 2010

Before I get ahead of myself I’d like to welcome Sylph to The Randomness Thing formally. Hello! I can tell it’s going to be a lot more active around here now.

On to the main event. I recently finished watching a short, spectacular, epic, 12 episode anime by the name of Strike Witches, which I’m sure some of you may have heard of already.

The year is 1944, around the time of World War II. At least it would be if it weren’t for another war. A war with aliens of unknown origin, namely the Neurois (nee-roy). These aliens are simply flying machines that seem to have no real method of communication and no real goal other than the domination of earth. They have highly advanced defenses and powerful lasers for weapons. There seems to be no real method of combating them, either and all seems lost.

Until a certain Dr. Miyafuji is taken into the military for research. What he develops are the Striker units. These machines grant flight to the wearer. Only certain people can wear them however; young girls with magical powers. The Strikers are powered by magic and simultaneously amplify the magic power of the wearer. They appear to resemble airplanes but slip onto the legs. The wearer is also granted a weapon to combat the Neurois, whether it be a high powered sniping rifle, a fully automatic machine gun, or a multi-chambered rocket launcher.

These girls are the last hope for the human race. The Strike Witches have been in combat for a few years but the story doesn’t pick up until a certain Yoshika Miyafuji catches the attention of Major Sakamoto, the second in command for the Strike Witches. She offers Yoshika the chance to join on several occasions, which she refuses. It’s only Yoshika joins Major Sakamoto on a journey to where she believes her father is, who she was told to have died several years ago. On the way their ship is attacked by a Neuroi and she voluntary picks up a rifle and wears a Striker to combat the Neuroi with Sakamoto leading her. Afterwards she joins to Strike Witches on her basis of wanting to help everybody she can.

All in all, it’s a fantastic show. My only complaint is that its too short. there’s a lot of fanservice going on here too, mostly in the very first episode. None of the girls wear pants so pantyshots a plenty. There’s a lot of humor going on too despite it being a rather serious anime. The characters are great, the art is great, and the plot and delivery are great. I highly recommend this to any anime watcher. It has something for everybody!

EDIT, EDIT, EDIT!! MASSIVE EDIT!!! There is a second season of Strike Witches, possibly even a third. I just now realized this. I assumed there was only a single season after seeing the ending of the first one. My bad!

Digital Music Shelf: Part 2 – Vocaloid ha Shuumatsu Tori no Yume wo Miru ka by saskure.uk

7 11 2010

This is currently one of my all time favorite albums. It features chiptune style music with soft vocals provided by Hatsune Miku, the virtual diva. I love this album for several reasons. The music and vocals blend so perfectly that they have a soothing feel but a strong emotional impact at the same time. This album also has a lot of tracks so there’s a lot of different tunes which keeps the album refreshing. It’s great for easy listening.

One of the greatest tracks on this album is Hello, Planet and definently deserves to be listened to. I did not include the video for this. Instead I included the Epilogue track since I couldn’t find the Prologue on YouTube.

Tracklist:

1. Prologue: Shuumatsu Tori

2. PICO@LUV ( Star san to v to AI no uta . )

3. Mobairi : Sensation

4. nijiiro * adventure

5. Campanella

6. Marii no Sekai

7. Utakata ei honoo tori

8. Haruno Haruka

9. Interlude:  Lalala Shuumatsuron

10. Shuumatsugayattekuru !

Digital Music Shelf: Part 1 – SPiCa by HeadphoneTokyo

7 11 2010

HeadphoneTokyo is a group that utilizes the Vocaloid program for their vocals and makes all the music themselves. So far they only have this one album. They are currently working on another one and progress can be tracked on their YouTube page under the same name.

I’m doing these as a follow up to Kesuki’s music posts under their own sub-series. I said I would do these a while ago but never got to it, so here I am.

Tracklist:

1. bluebird (Megpoid Gumi)

2. SPiCa (Hatsune Miku)

3. COLOR (Hatsune Miku)

4. RiNG My BeLL

5. bluebird <vocal off>

6. SPiCa <vocal off>

Beat of the Day: Landscaper by IOSYS

25 10 2010

Been a good long while since the last post here at all. Guess everyone has been busy, myself included. I’ve been sorting out college transfer issues and celebrated my 19th birthday on the previous Friday.

On to the music though. This is a track I’ve had for awhile but rarely listened to at all for whatever reason. Its from IOSYS’s completely instrumental album called Bloom. It features only 7 tracks, all of them in the same general style and all of the names of the tracks pertain to nature in general. Landscaper is probably my favorite song off the album. I’ve been getting more into the mellow branch of music lately and this song just calms be down so much and melts the day away. It’s great to listen to just to unwind and forget the day. I hope you all enjoy it.

Farce 90′s Post Series: Part 28 – The Great Fairy Wars

12 10 2010

LONG OVERDUE POST ALERT!!

Finally got around to it. My dad has been working me like a dog and since I finally get the house to myself for once I’m taking this opportunity to continue my posts.

The background behind this game is fairly simple. The three mischievous  fairies Luna Starchild, Sunny Milk, and Star Sapphire (correct me if I’m wrong, I’m going off of memory) have conspired to terrorize the nearby human village and take control of it. The three of them attempted to recruit Cirno and went to her home and ended up destroying it while she was away. Seeking revenge, Cirno chases after them to bring them to justice.

The Fairy Trio was first featured in a fan manga and mostly featured the group trying to pull pranks on people. They eventually ended up moving into the Scarlet Devil Mansion and worked as maids for the winter since their tree house was frozen over.

This game, despite being a self proclaimed “casual” game by ZUN, is incredibly difficult. One of the first noticeable changes is that in order to shoot repeatedly the fire button must be pressed repeatedly. By holding down the shoot button Cirno can freeze all nearby bullets and all other bullets that touch ones that are frozen. Cirno’s power can be increased by freezing large chains of bullets. All but one type of bullet can be frozen, and those are flaming bullets which are large, fast, and will more than likely kill you. Another major difference is that Cirno has no “lives”. Instead she has Morale/Confidence. When it reaches zero Cirno gives up. I’ve never beaten the game without using a continue.

The game is only comprised of 4 stages. In the first two stages, which can be played in different orders, features two of the three fairy trio as bosses and their own sub-bosses. In the third stage Daiyousei makes a special guest appearance as a mid-boss and all three of the fairies are fought at once as the end boss. The extra stage features Marisa Kirisame herself as the boss.

All in all it’s a good game, but very hard. It also features artwork from another group that slips my mind. If you’re looking for a challenge then look this game up. The download can be found in a lot of places. The english patch can be found at gensokyou.org.

The remaining posts will be for all major characters in the Touhou series in order of appearance.

Beat of the Day: Tewi! EienTewi Version by Sekken-ya

29 08 2010

I found this song a long time ago and it just showed up on my YouTube recommended list again so I gave it a listen and decided it’d be a great track for this place. There are a few spots in this that are a little mature but nothing that hasn’t really been seen here before.

This is by a group called Sekken-ya from their album Sekken-ya no Oseibo 2. More information on the album at this place:  http://vgmdb.net/album/14875

Have a listen. Hope you enjoy!

And if you paused at the 2 minute mark, congratulations. I do too.

Wallpaper of the Week: Flandre Scarlet

17 08 2010

Here’s a change of pace. Flandre Scarlet, the younger sister of Remilia Scarlet and one of my favorite characters. I don’t want to put up too much info on her in here. I’m saving that for my character posts in my series I’m doing. This is drawn by Haipa Okara, an artist on Pixiv who usually draws disgustingly adorable pictures of Flandre and Remilia. I saw this picture and thought, “Dude!”. Hope you guys enjoy!

NOTE: This image is disproportionate and will appeared slightly stretched vertically when assigned as a wallpaper, but still looks good.

Farce90′s Post Series: Part 27 – Double Spoiler

12 08 2010

Behold! More posts from Farce at 1 in the morning. I just got off work after a 7 hour shift and had to change a blown tire on the way home at around 11:30 at night. So I’m unwinding and relaxing by making a nice little post here since I haven’t contributed in awhile.

This title music is the same as all of the other games but I enjoy this version a lot more than other ones.

Double Spoiler plays exactly the same way as Shoot the Bullet so for more details on the controls and gameplay see the page I made on that. The main character is Aya Shameimaru, again. The major difference is the levels. I haven’t gotten very far into Double Spoiler or Shoot the Bullet but they are very enjoyable games. They are also extremely difficult, much more so than the other shooters. Mostly recommended for casual gaming since the levels are short and you don’t have to play through series of levels all at one time.

I think I’m going to call it a night right here. I know it was a short post but that wasn’t really much to say about it other than that it’s an addition to Shoot the Bullet, somewhat. I’m tired and my legs are sore. Goodnight (or morning as the case may be).

Beat of the Day: Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari by Supercell/Ryo

6 08 2010

This song is freaking amazing. It’s the ending theme to the anime Bakemonogatari. The singer is Chiwa Saito who also voices the main female character whose name escapes me at the moment. The piano that was added in gives this song a much more mellow feel than it would have without it. Overall, this is an amazing song good for any mood, but especially for easy listening. Hope you all enjoy it.

Composed by Ryo, performed by Supercell. Lyrics and translation from Suisei.

English Translation

Like always, on that day
you suddenly stood up and said
“Tonight, lets go Stargazing!”

“Oh, you sometimes have great ideas huh!”
everyone said as they laughed.
Like idiots, we just frolicked and walked
on the dark road
as not to be crushed by loneliness
nor anxiety.

As we looked up from this dark world,
the night sky looked like it would drop the stars!

Since when I wonder,
since when have I been
chasing after you?
Please, please
don’t be surprised, listen
to these feelings of mine.

“That’s DenebAltairVega…”
you said as you pointed at The Summer Triangle.
As I looked at the sky,
I finally found Orihime-sama,
but where is Hikoboshi-sama I wonder?
Isn’t she lonely?

As I stood next to you who was enjoying himself,
I stood there unable to say anything…

The truth is, I somehow
understood my feelings for you.
“I found it”
But they won’t reach you…
This is no good…don’t cry,
I told myself.

I acted tough, but the cowardly me
pretended like I didn’t have an interest…
However,
that just increased the pain stabbing my heart.
Aah, I see, this is what it means
to fall in love.

“Try saying to me ‘What’s wrong?’”
my heart tries to tell you that,
but being next to you is fine…
reality is so cruel…

I didn’t say it,
I couldn’t say it,
I can’t go back now…

That summer day,
those glittering stars,
I remember them even now.
Your smiling face,
your angry face,
I loved them all.
Weird isn’t it?
Even though I understood it all…
You don’t know about this,
it’s a secret only I know.
I pass the nights,
the you from my distant memories
points your finger at the stars
with such an innocent voice.

Wallpaper of the Week: Black Rock Shooter 2

4 08 2010

Been awhile since anything’s been posted on here. Souza is on vacation and I’ve been really busy with my online classes and work, among other things. I’ll keep trying to squeeze in some more posts and I’ll see if I can’t find a good song to put up. Expect to hear from me again soon.
