[Graphics] Signature Tutorial

Well I’m back with another tutorial. This one should be pretty quick and I plan to just flat out give the resources used, but keep in mind it’s somewhat on the advanced side for those of you who aren’t used to using textures and adjustment layers.

Most of this should transition from photoshop to gimp pretty smoothly, with the exception of adjustment layers. I have no clue what exact adjustment layers gimp has so, you’re probably going to need to cut corners.

[Graphics] Sigging 101

So here’s a quick little tutorial that I promised just about every place that I go to that I’d do. This tutorial assumes you know at least the basics of photoshop (Brushes, color adjustment, layer modes, selection, and filters). Keep in mind that my sigs are a bit different then other sigs you would see on sites. While I can teach you what I do, I can’t teach you every style. The only way I can tell you how to learn those is by telling and most definitely urging you to look up tutorials. It is okay to mimick styles at first. However, eventually make things your own by combining elements from styles you like.

To spare you all confusion, I’m going to note this here:  This tutorial is not here to teach you how to make a specific sig. It’s simply here to guide you on how you should start off making sigs. This is most likely going to get pretty lengthy, but bare with me.

I realize in parts it may come off as rude, but I prefer to be blunt and flat out say things rather than pretend they’re good to satisfy a person when they’re not… I realize everyone has their own opinion, but let’s put that aside for right now and think of what’s good for sigs rather than what we personally think looks cool. I would rather lead you toward a standard for all sigs than a unique type of sig that only one person out there likes.

白夢の繭 ～Ricordando il passato～ by 志方あきこ

So I’ve noticed there’s a lot of music that gets posted here on a daily basis (hurr), so I figured I’d post a favorite of mine. It’s a short piece from Umineko and to get the whole one, well it can’t be uploaded on youtube due to copyright infringement (I used to have it uploaded but they took it down) so yeah… you’re going to have to kinda have to take the short edit…

Many of you who have played the Umineko (When They Cry 3&4) sound novels probably know said song. It’s the theme of the conclusion of the story. This song could be described in one simple word: Beautiful. It is absolutely beautiful. It sets up the tone for the conclusion perfectly.

Anyways, here is said song. I’m going to refuse to put a download for this, with all due respect. I would much rather tell you to buy this album. It’s a rather short album, with 5 tracks, but it is not only beautiful beyond words, it is well worth the money.

For those of you wondering, yes this is the same singer who did 片翼の鳥 & うみねこのなく頃に which are the opening themes for the Anime & Sound Novel respectively.

[Graphics] Random Sig Batch 1

 Well I haven’t posted in a while, so I figure I’ll post what I’ve been doing, seeing I’m sure you all missed my GFX.

Gonna make this a really short post because I’m somewhat busy. Finally got around to making a new forum for our XBL BBCS community, which is pretty much MY LIFE at the current moment aside from GFX.

Gonna answer the obvious questions though:

Question 1: I requested something from you and you never gave it
Answer: If I accepted the request, then I most likely replied to you. If I didn’t, then I either ignored you or told you what’s up. For the guy who requested the sig I honestly forgot to email you but said sig is in this batch.

Question 2: Can I use?
Answer: As long as its here for using and doesn’t have a screen name on it, then yes, use it all you like. Don’t claim it, and don’t post it on your personal websites.

Question 3: Can I request?
Answer: At the current moment, NO.

Question 4: Can I request a tutorial based off a certain kind of sig?
Answer:  Depends… If I’ve done a tutorial based off it, no. If not, yes. It’ll have to come later though. Too much on queue.

[Graphics] Orihara Izaya Sig Tutorial

I hadn’t posted anything in a while, so I wrote this. I guess I got lazy. I have a batch of sigs and icons but I’ll post them later, distracted by things.

This tutorial’s based off a sig style I learned from a friend a while back. I modified things here and there to suit my own whims but essentially the credit goes to her. Her link: http://juriesute.deviantart.com/

First grab a rendered image (image with all the background cut out) or render one yourself. This is one of the few instances you cannot skip rendering.

After that make a new document. I use 450×150 but I don’t suggest going over 500×180. Now resize your render and place it in. This is the render I use:

Now personally I suggest you focus on the top half of this render, but you can do pretty  much almost the full render in a sig like this and get away with it. In other cases however, I wouldn’t reccomend it. Remove the credits of the original renderer for the sig. As much as they deserve the credit, you don’t really need to have that in your sig. Position the image about a third away from the right or in the center. For my image, the center works just find so I will be doing that.

Now pick both your foreground and background colors with the eyedropper. We will need those. Make a new layer beneath the image and draw a gradient. I used the reflected one.

Now lets throw in some color adjustment layers. This is for my image.

HUE/SATURATION:
SATURATION: +55
LIGHTNESS: +8

COLOR BALANCE:
SHADOWS: +7 -20 +39
MIDTONES: -28 +29 +19
HIGHLIGHTS: -18 +16 +38

LEVELS:
INPUNT: 22 1.51 238
OUTPUT: 19 225

Now that coloring’s done, lets make a new layer beneath the render. Grab some swirl brushes. Now grab some circle textures and slap them on. You can also draw your own circles. Erase the parts that overlap the render. They don’t need to overlap in this case. If you’ve drawn the circles than just place 2 or 3 of them behind the render.

Now lets place a few more brushes. Halftone should work, so should vectored shapes. Want things to pop? Pick some other colors off the original render and use brushes in those colors

When you’re done brushing, throw in some text and then that’s it, you’re done.

[Graphics] Pokemon 100 x 100 Icon

The batch is here. This time I only have a total of 87. I hope you do not mind the small number, though I don’t think you wanted 50% of them to be of  N. Some are old, some are new. I haven’t quality checked some so yeah… I’m just throwing everything that made it past my inital quality cut.

Aside from that, I’m still debating on what to do for the batch after next. Comments are welcome. To view the icons, simply click under the cut. Please save and host yourself, otherwise they all get deleted from photobucket. My bandwidth is getting beyond high. At least try to sympathize rather than bandwidth leeching.

[Graphics] Pokemon Icon Tutorial + PSD

 Quick tutorial as I’ve been at least 99.99% unhelpful and 75% Hazama spam (probably because I been without a computer for a year before this. lol)

Quick unrelated info: My photobucket bandwidth is hiking guys … This isn’t good. Also Cure doesn’t seem to want to give me an account :/ Need cosplay reference images BAD. Creys. Also my cheeks hurt. Gehh.

Anyways, onto the tutorial. This is a quick one so just bare with me. I used this image, you can use whatever you want, doesn’t have to be Ho-oh or pokemon, just whatever.:

Crop the image however you want. I highly suggest focusing on Ho-oh’s body as a whole if you use this image. If you use something else then do whatever. Once you’re done with that let’s move on.

Resize to 100px (or whatever size you want. 100px is what I regularly do.)

Duplicate your base layer. Once you have that set your top to “Soft Light.” This brightens up your image. Now go to filters and use a Gaussian Blur somewhere between 2~5. I used 3.5. You use whatever you feel blends best.

Now to coloring.

Let’s make a HUE/SATURATION Adjustment layer.
My settings:
SATURATION: +44
LIGHTNESS: +18
If you’re using another image, I wouldn’t go above 60 for saturation with a lightness of 20~25 maximum. If you really wanna go brighter go for 75 HIGHEST with a brightness of 30ish.

Next, Color Balance.
Left to right on numbers.
SHADOWS: -41, +16, +26
MIDTONES: +11, +8, -57
HIGHLIGHTS: -16, -12, -7
Use whatever fits your image.

Now, selective color (you might be able to skip this. Only do it if you think the image needs it)
NEUTRALS:
-11, 1, 0, 0

Now I use a texture, set it above all the layers and set to screen, 100:

Just lightly brush out the areas of the texture that clash with the character with a soft brush at extremely low opacity. And there. Ho-Oh icon:

Desktop Goodies: Blazblue Rainmeter skin

Herpderp Violent Incantation is at it again. Makin them Hazama skins and postin them everywhere. I made this because I was trying to reach my goal of coating my computer in Hazama and then I realized I had nothing left to do anymore. So creys.

Anyways this skin comes with 4 ini files: 2 of Hazama & 2 of Terumi. They’re all from the same image. The skin is kind of basic but bare with me, I am no coding expert ;; Good amounts of credit goes to Kaza here for being the one I have shamelessly leeched code from … again ;; Only one of the images is in the preview but really, there is 4 of them.

I guess now that I am done shamelessly skinning Hazama I’ll find something else to graphicsly butcher. Or I’ll just turn to Touhou…

On an unrelated note, does anyone have Franz Ferdinand’s album “Franz Ferdinand” via hardcopy? Wondering why ripping mine ended up so low quality when the disc is legit…

Google Chrome Theme: Hazama

It was going to happen whether you liked it or not. Regardless I made this skin because I wanted a skin. I was going to choose something less Moezama but then I realized: I don’t want to extract something that was going to take 500 years… I might make another that is less cutesy later but that really depends on how lazy I decide not to be. And when am I ever not lazy?

Anyways, while I’ve had the background on the new tabs page tested by a few other people (thank yous gaise), I realize the background should work pretty good on most computers. IDK about the toolbar as I aligned the positioning to my computer’s monitor (which is 1280×1024) so yeah, if it doesn’t work… well derp… Also fuck yes blinding colors

 So I herd u gaise miss my Trollzama spam

Very seldom do I ever make wallpapers. I really only make em when I’m in need… and I was really getting sick of my old wallpaper… so I ended up making one. It’s one of the only 2 that I’ve made that I have on my computer, so yeah… be careful before you ask for the others… They’re not as “good” as this one. And by good I mean all I did was resize my image and throw some filters on.

Wallpaper I did tonight was 026, but since I have 025 on my HDD, you can have that as well… I believe my 024 was good, but I’d have to find it again… Erm I did enough babbling tonight though

[Graphics] Some 200×200 icons

 Yup I haven’t posted much of anything in a short while. Been kind of distracted somewhere between programming and Blazblue. Really… I ought to… not play that as often, it’s really addicting. In fact… I think I have a problem…

Regardless, here we go. Here’s a small batch of 200 x200 icon in size, 3 of them originally requested by Dainc. The others I just made cause I had the images lying around and I figured I’d batch them all together. Please don’t resize them is all I ask lol.

Random Wallpaper Pack

 Sorry I’ve posted a whole lot of  nothing recently. Been somewhat busy between Deathly Hallows, spamming Doujinstyle, cleaning my computer, Xbox live, and making a new website (the preview of which you can see here: http://pandemonium.elementfx.com/)

Anyways, that’s not really why I’m here right now. A while ago I said I’d gather my things and make a wallpaper pack. Well fret not, I have them for you. And fret not, this wallpaper pack is Hazama free for all of you guys who are sick of “Hazama goes in every field.” Do keep in mind though, since this is my personal wallpaper pack, not wallpapers I’ve made, none of them are cropped or altered in any ways, and they’re all miscellaneous sizes. Also I’d like to note that most of these fit the anime & video game type themes rather than my pack of non-anime things. So you won’t have to deal with Flogs of Halo, Half-Life, and Harry Potter related things (though who wouldn’t want a snazzy wall of Bellatrix Lestrange?), though I think theres an L4D one in here as well as a Deadmau5 one…

[Graphics] 8 Sig + PSD Batch

 Alright, for now this is the last of my sig batches, until I produce new material. All but one of these is old, and to be honest,  the new one is kind of… well… a joke sig. But yeah, to sum it up, after this, any sigs I’ll post will be new or older, and for the older, I cannot guarantee that I can remake the sigs. :/ In all honesty I would rather not. I can make something similar, but it’s only upon request, and I’m really hoping that you guys don’t make a million “duplicate this” requests… Meaning I’m willing to do it, if it’s a seldom thing.

Anyways, moving on. After this I’ll be working on a few icon batches, but I thought I’d ask about posting sigs. Do you guys want me to post all of my sigs? Warning though, a lot of sigs cannot be used because I’m not willing to edit out the screennames. In some cases it’s next to impossible. (That and I don’t like people editing my sigs.) I realize I still have more icon batches to do… among other things… but still… Just a thought.
