Spring 2012 Anime

24 03 2012

Hey everyone,

I’ll save the expected “sorry I’ve been gone” and get right to the point. With the Fall season approaching its end, Spring titles have appeared, and a good amount of them. Check out the chart below for the summaries of the series and OVAs that will be released.

What looks interesting to you?

Black★Rock Shooter (TV) – First Episode

5 02 2012

Hey Everyone!

So I just finished watching the first episode of Black★Rock Shooter (TV). After waiting a while for its premiere, I was pretty excited to finally see it. Unfortunately, I was left a bit of with a sour taste in my mouth.

Now, it is my policy to not completely bash a series after only seeing one episode, but I can’t simply rave about what I saw. It has been almost a year since I first saw the original OVA,and I probably should have re-watched it before diving into BRS TV. As far as the story goes, it is just as chronological as the original; decide for yourself if that is a good thing or not. As you may have known, the premiere date was moved to February, so I expected to see some superb animation. Despite the extra time, some of the animation is a bit lacking during the “school” universe scenes; a majority of the episode. What I was most impressed by is the animation of the fighting scenes in Black Rock Shooter’s universe. You can tell that effort went into that portion of the show, but I just wish that they had displayed more of it. I enjoyed the voice acting, and the art style is just as beautiful as the OVA. As a special treat, the ending song turned out to be “Black★Rock Shooter” sung by the one and only Hatsune Miku!

All in all, as a fan of Black★Rock Shooter and all of its glory I enjoyed watching it. I still have a feeling that maybe it was a project that wasn’t ready to be taken on just yet, but I expect to enjoy the rest. The series will only be eight (if I am not mistaken) episodes long, so you might as well check it out. Nico Nico is streaming the anime with subtitles in a handful of different languages. This will be a short post today, guys. Thank you!

I’d like to wish all of the readers and authors here the best during the holiday season! Regardless of what holiday you might celebrate, I hope you are all having fun and enjoying yourselves. Since I have joined this blog as an author, I’ve had a ton of fun, and I hope that The Randomness Thing has another strong year in 2012! I’ll be working hard next year, and I hope to see you all on The Randomness Thing!

Random Wallpaper: Akemi Homura

9 12 2011

I found this really cool wallpaper earlier today, so I decided I’d share it. Homura looks so cool holding a huge rifle. And we can all agree that Homura is a pretty awesome character to begin with! Anyway, enjoy!

“Mashiro-Iro Symphony: Love is Pure White” Review

29 11 2011

Hey!

So I’ve finally gotten around to posting an anime review. Frankly, I think I’ve just been really lazy lately; sorry! Anyway, Here is a few impressions of Mashiro-Iro Symphony: Love is Pure White. I’m not completely caught up with this particular series, so I’m basing this review off of less information that most of my other reviews.

Mashiro-Iro Symphony: Love is Pure White (ましろ色シンフォニー -Love is pure white- Mashiroiro Shinfoni -Love is pure white-) is originally an adult visual novel by Palette, released in 2009. Three manga adaptations and four drama CDs soon followed, and the anime, produced by Manglobe, began airing in October 2011.

From my past experiences, I’ve noticed that anime adaptations of visual novels can be tricky. Since the animated series can only follow one path (most of the time), a lot of otherwise important details can be left out. While I haven’t played the Mashiro-Iro visual novel, I really want to now after watching the anime. Not so much over my opinion of the series so far, but I’m mostly interested in seeing how the original plays out. Read the rest of this entry »

“High Powered” by Sphere

24 11 2011

Hey everyone. I regret not writing a review for last week, but I was pretty busy. I spent my weekend at the “Anime USA 2011″ convention in Arlington, Virginia, US, which was excellent! I’ve got a good idea of what I what to review next, so I should have one up soon. Anyway, today I’d like to share one of my favorite opening songs from this season of anime: “High Powered” by Sphere, from Shinryaku!? Ika Musume (the second season of Squid Girl). It’s a warm and upbeat tune that never fails to get me in a good mood. Enjoy!

Also, Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

“Ben-To” Review

14 11 2011

How is everyone?

Zanafor here with – you might have guessed it – an anime review! As many of the series of the Fall 2011 lineup slowly reach their midway points, I hope to be able to write some reviews of what I’ve seen so far. Without further hesitation, I present a short review of Ben-To

Ben-To (ベン・トー) is a series of light novels written by Asaura and first published in Febuary 2008. The anime adaptation, produced by David Production, began airing in October 2011. Six episodes out of the scheduled twelve have been released as of now.

I find myself saying this a lot, but Ben-To really suprised me. After reading a handful of confusing summaries, I was left feeling skeptical. Nevertheless, I decided to check it out. What I saw completely bypassed my every expectation. Instead of getting the type of random, hyperactive anime that I expected, I was greeted with a solid, action/school comedy series that has won its place as one of my personal favorite anime series this season.

Nico Nico Starmine [Original Medley for Nico Nico Orchestra 4th Anniversary]

3 11 2011

Hey everyone!

Zanafor here with another music post. Even though there have been more than a few songs posted lately, I just have to share one more. As I was browsing Nico Nico Douga today, I stumbled across the latest Nico Nico Orchestra Medley: Nico Nico Starmine, which was posted not too long ago in October. 【☆ニコオケ☆4周年】ニコニコ☆スターマイン【オリジナルメドレー】, as it is titled on Nico Nico, is the an original medley composed for the orchestra’s fourth anniversary. If you haven’t heard of the Nico Nico Orchestra before, well, unfortunately I don’t have much information on it myself. All I know is that it performs beautiful medleys of otaku-related music. Many of you may be familiar with Nico Nico Douga medleys such as “Kumikyoku” or “Ryuuseigun”. Take these grand medleys, arrange them for an orchestra, and you’ve got yourself one amazing piece of music. Now enough of my writing, do yourself a favor and watch the video! (And maybe even challenge yourself to see how many songs you recognize!)

Watching this beautiful work of art almost brings tears to my eyes. They look like they are having so much fun; if only I could join them!

Rusty Hearts Menu Theme

22 10 2011

Hey everyone,

Zanafor here with a short music post. Rusty Hearts (http://rustyhearts.perfectworld.com/) is a new, anime-styled, hack-n-slash MMO released by Perfect World Entertainment. It is currently in open beta, yet I was able to check it out a while ago during closed beta. The gameplay is pretty nice, but I was really blown away by the BGM for the main menu. It is a lovely piano solo that I could listen to on loop for hours.

P.S. – The title “Lament of a Rusting Heart” is fan made: the song does not have an official title.
