Game Review: Ultimate Knight Windom XP

9 04 2013

It’s been a while, and since I’ve got some free time. Here’s a game review!

Giant Robots. One-on-one beam saber action. Macross Missile Massacre ™. The only thing that would make this game better would be online multi-player capability. Oh yeah, it has that too. This free Gundam clone offers surprisingly addicting gameplay and lets you indulge that fantasy you’ve always had ever since you saw your first Gundam anime. 3-D arenas pitting teams of mecha against each other makes the gameplay just like the Gundam Arcade game in Japan, which is similar to Armored Core and Virtual On, but you don’t have to blow 100 yen each time you want to play.

I just tried it last night, and it was AWESOME!
Though the some people thinks the names are hilarious, which is somewhat not. But I guess they named it after OS/Operating system. (Windom XP=Windows XP, Linux, etc…)

The game has awesome graphics and effects. But you’ll be needing a good graphics card if you want to play this game without any problems…

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
* OS: Windows XP/Vista
* CPU: Pentium 4 1.4 GHz or better.
* Memory: 512MB or better (XP), 1GB or better (Vista).
* Graphics: 64 MB of VRAM or better.
* A graphics card that supports DirectX9.0c or greater. GeForce or Radeon graphics card recommended. Anything other than the items listed above may result in noticeable slowdown.
* Sound: A soundcard that supports DirectX8 or greater.
* Software: The latest version of DirectX.
* .NET Framework 2.0 or greater.

Doujin Game: DreadOut (Demo Version)

5 04 2013

1241428620X310I’m so proud that an Indonesian game developer company can come up with such a game. DreadOut is an Indonesian horror game that adopts a lot of the classic Fatal Frame gameplay. This game sets in an Indonesian village where you will play a Senior High School girl and experience her encounter with Indonesian ghosts.

You will be equipped by one mobile phone which you can try to blitz the ghosts out which by the way is very effective apparantly. Too bad that this game is still on demo version but I can’t wait to get my hands on the full version when it gets out.

I promised myself that I will make an effort to buy this game once the full version is launched and I hoe the story is good and the ghosts bring in some of the nostalgic of traditional ghosts in Indonesia.

Doujin Game: Vocaloid vs Zombie

2 04 2013

vocaloid vs zombieI pick this game up on a random site and it turns out quite interesting. Vocaloid vs Zombie is a mod game based on our favourite tower defense game type, Plants vs Zombie. Now you can plant the Vocaloids and ward off a horde of zombies trying to invade your house.

The element of the game is still the same as the usual Plant vs Zombie so I guess the learning curve is short. But the cool thing is you will plant those cute vocaloids with special unique abilities that will help defend your house.

I have been a fan of Plant vs Zombie and this mod is certainly interesting. And fortunately, I have found the English version of this game. However, I don’t think you really need for type of game, would you?

Doujin Game: The Crooked Man

30 03 2013

tumblr_inline_mjfesblyL51qz4rgpAnother horror game that is brilliantly made with RPGMaker engine. I haven’t played it yet but I have watched PewDiePie game playthrough and I have to say it is a rather scary experience. The suspense is pretty well-timed and I like how this is drawn with anime style.

This game also has a fair share of challenging puzzles and as you progress with your puzzle, you will realize what the story is about and know that the main character might not be innocent as you think he is.

Anyway, I’m giving away spoilers here. Hope you enjoy this scary game and remember kids, if you are afraid and faint-hearted, grab your headphone and play the game with maximum value. Just kidding, you shouldn’t play the game if you don’t have the guts.

For the other people, you are in for a great scare and this game will pump up your adrenaline to the maximum.

Game Nostalgia: Team Buddies

13 02 2013

I’m sorry for slacking a loy this month, I’m just not in the mood to do anything, not even play my newest games. So, once again I’ll be back talking about the olden games. Today, I’m going to talk about a wacky game called Team Buddies.

Team_Buddies_Cover_Art Team Buddies was developed by Psygnosis Camden Studio (now SCE Studio Soho), and was released for the Playstation by on September 18, 2000 by Midway Games.

Team Buddies is a wacky build your army type of game, where your main activity is build weapons to make your team stronger and more effective in the battle. In Team Buddies there is also a multiplayer for up to 4 players in splitscreen, and there are many modes for it.

There’s a slight difference between the EU release and the American release. In the EU release each team color will have a different kind of nation representing it, and the voices from each country are made as stereotypical as it can be. for example, If you choose the Blue Team, it will consist of British accents characters, Yellow is French and Red is Scottish. In the American release every team speaks with normal American language regardless of the color you choose for your team

During it’s initial Team Buddies wasn’t commercially successful, it was never popular to begin with and resulting in very limited production. But the game had it’s own cult following to spread out the word, and today do to it’s rarity one copy of the game go up over than $200, making it own of the most expensive and rare PlayStation games. Currently it hasn’t received any kind of new console port, making it much more rarer.

Game Review: Resident Evil 6

4 02 2013

resident-evil-6-dcTime for me to put my two cents into this Playstation 3 game, Resident Evil 6. I have played this game and I’m cureently in the story of Jake and Sherry. So far, it’s not been a disappointing experience. My nerdgasm is fulfilled by the inclusion of Sherry Birkin and Ada Wong to the game and to be honest, I can’t wait to get my hands on Ada Wong. She is so mysterious and you probably perceived her as the anti-hero of this Resident Evil 6 game. Anyway, let’s elaborate how this game perform.

1. Story

The story of Resident Evil 6 comes in 4 different kind of flavours: Leon S. Kennedy Arc, Chris Redfield Arc, Jake Muller Arc, and Ada Wong Arc. All these stories will eventually merged with one another, giving you the feeling of “Ah, so that’s how it happens”. Also, there is some kind of subtle relationships between the characters such as Leon’s unresolved romantic relationship with Ada Wong or the gentleman with daddy issue which is Jake Muller. Ada Wong is brilliantly put as an anti-hero and that role fits her perfectly. I think that what this game looks very interesting. There are so much conflicts that spice u the story of the game.

2. Challenge

Playing Resident Evil 6 offers not much of a puzzle. The place is very straightforward with limited riddles to be solved. Probably, you will find yourself out of bullets while fighting a horde of zombies. I haven’t played the No Hope difficulty but probably that’s not a very wise idea. It still employ the same infinite slots of weapons so you can pick your weapon of choice ranging from guns, shotguns, rifle, sniper rifle, and grenade launcher. Zombies also dropped bullets if they were killed but it’s kinda logical since they are carrying weapons as well.

3. Controls

Resident Evil 6 has improved in terms of controls. You can quickly change weapons with the control of your joysticks and every character has his own weapon inventory theme (You’ll get what I mean if you played the game). Every character also have his sets of combo to kill zombies and he also have a unique combat characteristic. For Example, Sherry has a decent agility in her combo making her a swift brawler while Jake Muller has a power house combo to take down zombies easily.

4. Cinematography

Resident Evil 6 offers stunning graphic with a lot of action pack and bloody scenes. You will not get bored whenever you play the “Run for your life” stage. You will be kept engaged by the development of the story while in the same time, enjoy a gorgeous real-life animation.

Visual Novel Highlight : Sakura Wars

10 12 2012

Continuing my highlights is the ever long running series “Sakura Wars”. This series has been running strongly from 1996, followed by a large number of games, anime adaptations and even movies based on it. As a series, it still holds Concerts for it’s a fan and their main song “Geki! Teikoku Kagekidan” has been sung and remade in different versions along the years. So, prepare for a long series highlight, because it has 5 Main series from the franchise.

4983Sakura Wars was first released for the Sega Saturn in September 26, 1996. It was developed and owned by SEGA and licensed by Red Entertainment , it’s idea was created by Ouji Hiroi. Sakura Wars was  major hit for the Sega Saturn, this large popularity made it received a 4 episode OVA Sakura Taisen: Ouka Kenran, which is a basic retelling of the events from the game itself and in April 8, 2000 it receives and TV series adaptation. Being a major success it will then spawn 4 more direct sequels, this is not including game spin-offs. It also receives many ports including the Sega Dreamcast, Playstation 2, PSP and the PC.

The main theme that goes on in Sakura Wars is the most basic theme in any video game, a group of gifted people have to fight an evil organization that threatens to destroy the world. In this case, the group of gifted people are mostly females that have incredible psychic powers. Sakura Wars also uses “Steampunk” as its main world theme.

Visual Novel Highlight: Galaxy Angel Eternal Lovers

3 12 2012

1090Galaxy Angel Eternal Lovers is the third and the last part in the series. Also developed by BROCCOLI was released in August 20, 2004. It was first released for the PC and then followed by a PlayStation 2 port in February 24, 2005. As the last part in the series, besides being a direct continuation of the previous title, Moonlit Lovers, the last part makes sure to give proper closure to each routes of the story.

In this part, the VN will really focus on the relationship of Takuto and  the members of the Galaxy Angel. The story itself was designed to be a test for each couple.

Story
The war with the Val-Fasq begins in earnest while a couple of refugees from the legendary EDEN (the place origin of both the White Moon and Black Moon) arrive to beg the Transbaal Empire (and the legendary hero Takuto Meyers) for help. Takuto and his Angel’s relationship is also put into serious jeopardy as his duties preparing for the war with the Val-Fasq keep them apart with increasing frequency. (Wikipedia)

Visual Novel Highlight: Galaxy Angel Moonlit Lovers

1 12 2012

As promised, today I’m going talk about the direct sequel of the first Galaxy Angel game, which is Galaxy Angel Moonlit Lovers.

8186The 2nd game of the Galaxy Angel, Moonlit Lovers was also developed by BROCCOLI. It was release first for the PC in August 21, 2003. The game itself received a console port for the PS2 in February  26, 2004 and in this edition they’ve made Chitose also has her own story which she has not in the original PC game, but they’ve also released a patch for the PC. The game is still using the same gameplay and style as it’s predecessor, but the main difference with this sequel is the introduction of a new character, Karasuma Chitose the new and 6th member of the Galaxy Angel. You might remember her in the 4th Season of the anime series, as the sickly, vengeful and self-imagined ostracism of one of the members of the Twin Star Team. But she has a drastically different personality in the game, She’s a traditional, polite, and soft-spoken young woman. Chitose joined the military for two reasons; for her respect and admiration for both her father and the Galaxy Angel. Besides, the introduction of a new heroine they also introduced a new villain .

Visual Novel Highlight : Galaxy Angel

30 11 2012

Yeah, Sorry that I haven’t posted anything lately, been experiencing some wacky mood swings and it affected most of my IRL stuff. Today I’m going to talk about one wholes series that for the ones who don’t know might shock them a bit due to the bizarrely different themes served by 2 different medias and it’s the Galaxy Angel Series.

1088Galaxy Angel, is the first game from it’s series. It was developed by BROCOLLI and was released first for the PC in August 23, 2002. The game itself is basically a Love Adventure combined  with a RTS Spaceship battle, where you can command all the “Emblem Frames” Piloted by the Angel Troupe. Later in April 17, 2003 it receives a PS2 port. It then ultimately received an anime adaptation in April 7, 2001, but wait the release year it’s contradicting itself? The truth is the development for the game got delayed and they first released the mange adaptation of the game in 2001, then they did a loose comedic adaptation for the anime. So, the game is the root for every adaptation known in the industry. In fact because the anime went first, and it was a popular hit, it then overshadows the game and the manga itself, in which resulted expected the game and the manga to be “the same” with the anime when they don’t realize that the anime was a spin-off adaptation.

Wallpaper of the Week: Kirby & Rainbow

18 10 2012

Erm, yea, I’m back…from the dead. I’ve passed a month and a half already of torture grade 11 so far. As much as having a crappy schedule goes, I guess I’m still hanging on between life and death so far. As you all know, grade 11 is the most critical time of the year because this is the grade that all universities look at to deem a student worthy of joining their programs and well, my parents and teachers aren’t going to go easy on me like they did for the last 2 years while in secondary so…yea. Sorry for being away for so long. Anyway, as you can see in this wallpaper, my friend has….ahem…influenced me in this certain video game that she showed me and now, I can’t stop playing this either. The reason why I separated the rainbow is that just now, outside my brother’s room window, I just saw a real rainbow (I took a picture of it too) so yea, enough blabbering from me. Enjoy the wallpaper.

Game Nostalgia: Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure

17 10 2012

In spirit with the new now airing anime Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, the next game that I’m going to talk about is a fighting game with the same name.

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, is a fighting game developed by Capcom based on Hirohiko Araki‘s manga of the same title. It was originally released in Japan 1998 as an arcade fighting game. It was then ported to the Playstation and Dreamcast a year later. In August 2012, it then received a HD remake for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Story

Despite the name, this game actually takes only one part from the long running manga. It took the 3rd part, which is called Stardust Crusaders.

In this 3rd part, it tells a story about Jotaro Kujo. After developing a mysterious powers that are called Stands, he was then visited by his grandfather Joseph Joestar and is told about his ancestors and the curse that their bloodline has face through decades. After Jotaro’s mother fell ill due to her body not able to control her newly developed Stand, it’s then revealed that the eternal enemy of the Joestar family, Dio Brando is still alive by taking control of Jonathan Joestar’s body, ancestor of both Jotaro and Joesph. The only way to safe his mother is by killing Dio and ending the curse for good.  On their adventure they also meet other Stand users, some are friends that share the same goal, and some are strong foes that are loyal servants to Dio, the vampire.

Visual Novel Highlight: Double Cast

20 09 2012

Sorry that I haven’t posted in awhile, got a nasty fever going on, but it’s gone down for now. since I’m healthy enough to write, I’ll make up for the days of my absence. Today’s VN highlight will be Double Cast. But before that  apologize if this post is shorter than my other ones. It’s because it’s hard to find the release info about this.

Double Cast is the first title in the “Yarudora” series (short for Yaru Dorama, “do it yourself drama”). Double Cast is an interactive movie VN, developed by Sugar & Rockets and published by SCE Studios Japan, with animations by Production I.G. It was first released in 25 June, 1998 for the Playstation and then received a port to the PSP in 28 July 2005.

Double Cast has multiple endings and despite it’s first impressions and outward appearance of a love story, it’s also a genuine Psycho thriller story. There are actually 17 Bad Ends mostly involving the deaths of the main characters, combined with 6 Normal endings and 4 Good endings there are 27 endings in total. Double Cast mainly plays out like a normal VN, but with animated scenes and events, making it like watching an anime. Both Ports for Double Cast are rated 12+.
