Visual Novel Highlight : Sakura Wars

Continuing my highlights is the ever long running series “Sakura Wars”. This series has been running strongly from 1996, followed by a large number of games, anime adaptations and even movies based on it. As a series, it still holds Concerts for it’s a fan and their main song “Geki! Teikoku Kagekidan” has been sung and remade in different versions along the years. So, prepare for a long series highlight, because it has 5 Main series from the franchise.

4983Sakura Wars was first released for the Sega Saturn in September 26, 1996. It was developed and owned by SEGA and licensed by Red Entertainment , it’s idea was created by Ouji Hiroi. Sakura Wars was  major hit for the Sega Saturn, this large popularity made it received a 4 episode OVA Sakura Taisen: Ouka Kenran, which is a basic retelling of the events from the game itself and in April 8, 2000 it receives and TV series adaptation. Being a major success it will then spawn 4 more direct sequels, this is not including game spin-offs. It also receives many ports including the Sega Dreamcast, Playstation 2, PSP and the PC.

The main theme that goes on in Sakura Wars is the most basic theme in any video game, a group of gifted people have to fight an evil organization that threatens to destroy the world. In this case, the group of gifted people are mostly females that have incredible psychic powers. Sakura Wars also uses “Steampunk” as its main world theme.

Happy Birthday Souza-san!

Ano…I’m very sorry about not being able to post this earlier. I have only just realized how stressing high school life can be. Anyways, Souza-san, happy birthday from your youngest co-author!

First of all, I must naturally wish you a very happy birthday and hope you have many more to come. Second of all, I want to thank you for allowing me to become a co-author on The Randomness Thing. I’ve never had a place where I could actively share my otaku knowledge and my obsession with anime before, and you’ve provided me-and all the other authors on this blog-a haven for that. It’s been absolutely amazing and beneficial to be able to work with you and each of my other senpais. Third of all, I would like to present you with your birthday present.

As you may know-or maybe not-I do covers of vocaloid and anime songs for fun and post them on youtube. It’s been my tradition to record a song for each of my friends’ birthdays, and Souza-san, you’re no exception. So the song I decided to do is Yume no Tsubasa. A couple months back, I did a duet of the song with Razzyness [another youtube user] but I didn’t like it due to the fact I sound like a 5 year old little girl. I was waiting for the perfect moment to redo this song, and decided that this would be the perfect occassion.

I realize that Yume no Tsubasa is a love song, but I mean this in a friendship like way. It’s also to encourage you onward in the trials that lay ahead. I hope that you’ll excuse me if my voice cracks or if I sound terrible…I honestly tried! Happy Birthday Souza-san!

Doujin Game: Grief Syndrome

For all the Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica fans out there, here is a good game for you to play. Grief Syndrome is a side-scrolling beat’em up type of game. You can choose either Kaname Madoka, Tomoe Mami, Kyouko Sakura, Akemi Homura, or Miki Sayaka throughout the entire play.

Each character has their own ability and attack combos to finish off the enemies and you will work your way up your level so you are stronger to survive the enemy attacks. I personally loved Akemi Homura since you can go nuts with pistols, machine gun, rocket launcer, and grenade (Sou-chan also favourite her since he is a girl with guns nerd :p) but sometime see moves backward when using the machine gune which makes things complicated if you have a stage that has many pitfalls (especially the 3rd stage).

Another unique feature of this game is that you have a Soul Limit which is reduced overtime. If you take damage, the Soul Limit will reduced very fast to heal you up and when you use your special move the Soul Limit also reduced very quickly. Once you are out of Soul Limit you will not be able to continue the game and you will not be able to select the character anymore to fight.
