Anime Review – Nyan Koi!

I discovered this anime from a post that Souza himself made where he mentioned that he was watching it. Out of curiosity I searched it up and began watching it. I was instantly drawn into the story as it threw you directly into the plot.

The story behind it is a high school student named Kousaka Junpei accidentally knocked the head off of a statue of a cat deity. He was cursed as a consequence. To lift the curse he would have to grant the wishes of 100 cats or he himself would turn into one. To complicate things he has a horrible cat allergy. However, to make it easier on him he is now able to communicate with cats. Hilarity follows around every corner in this romantic comedy anime. New characters are introduced every so often and keep the story fresh. In other words, it never gets old.

The only downside is that it only has 12 episodes. However, it was released just last year around February so there is a possibility of a second season, especially seeing as how the finale episode didn’t completely resolve the story. As such, I’m deeming the anime as currently running.

I recommend this anime to anyone and everyone who enjoys a good laugh. For those that are interested you can watch it here:

  1. Hahaha, thanks for the review there, Farce. Yep, it’s a really hilarious show with lots of moe stuff around. I’m stalling this show however, to finish off watching Umineko no Naku Koro ni. Now that I’ve finished that, it’s time to watch Nyan Koi again! I’m on the 11th episode.

    • How is Umineko no Naku Koro ni? I’ve never watched it but I’ve noticed you mention it an aweful lot. What’s the genre, for starters?

    • It’s a horror/thriller anime which has similar plot type as Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. If you like anime with gore scene but with lots of cute and cuddly characters (which is completely contradicts the genre of this particular anime), then maybe you want to give this anime a try.

  2. Nice, short take on the series! I happen to enjoy this show as well. For 12 episodes, it really get the job done without using too many stale jokes.

  3. Umineko no Naku Koro ni isn’t as good as Higurashi if I may say so. I don’t realy mind adaptions and re tellings but somehow I think Umineko is well.. a shame.
Farce, if you haven’t seen Higurashi yet, start with those.

  4. I don’t mind if they do breeze through and through the chapters nowadays as long as it all the same stays coherent and the intent of the tale is still there (ALA Natsume Yuujinchou). Course it would be wonderful if they didn’t charge through it and just spread but alas its been a set series, seeing that this is material already available I would accept that the manager would’ve considered how to hold the heart of the novel more or less on that point.
